Of course we love selling great coffee, but it’s an added bonus when we see just where our coffee is going and how our customers are using the simple concept of a great cup of coffee and friendly hospitality to create something much more significant.
Last year we visited Sanctuary Coffee Stop, which is part of St Thomas Church Norwich. Every week the church building transforms itself into a café rom Tuesday to Saturday, hosting all manner of events from Saturday morning jazz to live sport and everything in between.
Not ones to let the grass grow under their feet, St Thomas Church’s latest project is The Mitre; a run-down old pub which they purchased last year and have spent the last few months restoring. It opened last week selling craft beers, coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner and is thought to be the first pub in the UK to be owned and operated by a church.
But it’s much more than a public house; the vision is for it to become a public home with the purpose of serving the local community. The church also plans to use some of the funds raised by the venture to support its charitable causes, including work to prevent human trafficking, international development and supporting the homeless.
We are so pleased to be supplying both Sanctuary Coffee Stop and The Mitre with their coffee and equipment and we wish them well in their exciting new venture.
